Last week, Comcast announced it was moving from wideband broadband service to homes and to place business in Harrisburg and the Dauphin, Cumberland, Lebanon and the central state.

The average customer will see twice the speed without additional charge, a Comcast news release said.

Fred DeAndrea, a Comcast spokesman, said last week that the wideband available in Palmyra and North Londonderry, South Londonderry, East Hanover and South Annville townships.

Comcast’s Extreme 50 level offers downstream speeds up to 50 megabits per second through a DOCSIS 3.0 network. Upstream speed is up to 10 Mbps.

For example, a high-definition movie can be downloaded in about 16 minutes with the Extreme 50, and standard-definition movie can be downloaded in about five minutes, the release said. A standard-definition TV show take seconds to download.

A faster speed will be available in other places in central Pennsylvania next year.

“With wideband, we put the pedal to the metal and provides the speed for our customers,” said Jim Samaha, Comcast’s Senior Vice President for Central Pennsylvania region, in the release.

Comcast is making plans to provide a speed of 160 Mbps in the future.

Comcast’s settlement is a new level of Extreme 50, which costs $ 139.95 per month, and Ultra, which has a speed of 22 Mbps downstream.speed and up to 5 Mbps of upstream speed for $ 62.95 a month.

Comcast’s Performance level offers speed to 12 Mbps download and 2 Mbps for upload.

Telecom equipment maker Ericsson says it is unlikely possibility: 500Mbps transmission speeds over ordinary copper cable.
